Since we first released the Stacks addon for Franz Josef about three weeks ago, we’ve been receiving highly positive responses and feedback. We wanted to provide you a custom page layout builder that is both easy to use and at the same time highly flexible, and I think we’ve delivered just that.
Today, we’re making it even better. With the release of Stacks version 1.1, we’ve added a few features that you have requested to make the tool even more useful and flexible.
Changes in Stacks 1.1
Chief among these is the option to create custom widget areas to be used as sidebars on different pages. You can now create separate sidebars for use in different sections of your site. For example, you might want to have one sidebar for your online shop, one sidebar for your blog, and another different sidebar for your photo galleries.
This enables you to tailor the widgets in those sidebars to be more relevant to the content of the page, all without needing custom codes or logic rules.

In development
We are already working on the next update for the Stacks addon to make it even more powerful and easier for you to customise the layout of your site.
In the pipeline at the moment is the feature to use your own custom layouts in place of the theme’s default templates. This means you will be able to control exactly how, for example, the search results page will look like. This ability will extend to most of the templates in the theme – author profile page, archive pages, blog listing page, 404 error page, etc.
